This easy classic homemade spaghetti sauce will be your new go-to! When you want to bring the family together few dishes perform like pasta and spaghetti sauce for a family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb 90% lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cup yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 tbsp garlic (minced)
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil (chopped)
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (shredded, divided)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped for garnish)

Instructions 

  • In a large nonstick skillet, heat olive oil on medium-high to high heat. Add in the ground beef and lightly brown, stirring and breaking up with the spatula until cooked through. Once cooked through, place the beef on a paper-towel lined dish. Drain the excess fat but leave about 1-2 tbsp of rendered fat in the skillet.
  • On medium heat, saute the onion until slightly softened. Once the onion has softened, add the garlic and continue to saute until fragrant. Once the garlic has become fragrant, add in the crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, tomato paste, ground beef, basil and oregano. Stir thoroughly then add the salt and pepper to preferred taste. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve over spaghetti cooked al dente and garnish fresh chopped parsley.
