  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 4 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 13 oz water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Combine the flour, salt, and yeast into a large bowl and whisk or stir until thoroughly combined. Add water into the mixture with your hands until no dry flour remains on the bottom of the bowl.
  • On a heavily floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes, pulling the dough away from you and folding it back over itself until it becomes smooth. Form the dough into a ball and place in a bowl coated with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a towel and refrigerate, allowing the dough to rise overnight. If you are using the dough that night you can let it rise at room temperature for about an hour and the dough will roughly double in size.
  • Once the dough has risen, turn out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into four even dough balls. Allow these to rise for an additional 1-2 hours if you plan on making pizza right away. Otherwise, place in ziplock bags to freeze for your next pizza night.

Mac and cheese is a classic that brings everyone to the table with big, eager eyes and hearty appetites. But don’t make it from the box! Those prepackaged mac and cheese boxes have loads of ingredients you can’t pronounce. Ingredients for making mac and cheese

Mac and Cheese Ingredients

  • Elbow macaroni – Well, the name of the dish says it all! Elbow macaroni is one of the quintessential ingredients for mac and cheese!
  • Butter – You’ll need unsalted butter to serve as the fat base for your cheese sauce.
  • Flour – And to go with that butter and add thickness, you need flour.
  • Milk – How else can you get that sauce to be creamy?
  • Cheese – Your favorite melting shredded cheeses are the key to delightfully cheesy mac and cheese! My family prefers a blend of sharp cheddar and mozzarella, but you can also use different cheeses such as Swiss cheese, Parmesan cheese, white cheddar, Gruyere, or Gouda if you love those.
  • Breadcrumbs – This gives baked mac and cheese a wonderful crust on top that contrasts with the rich creaminess of the dish. I love both regular and panko bread crumbs.

Expert Tips for Creamy Mac and Cheese

To have the best creamy mac and cheese, you need to use melting cheeses. Cheddar is one of them, but if you mix it with mozzarella too, you get unbelievable creamy and cheesiness. My son used to love boxed Velveeta until we started making this and now there is no turning back!

Warm up the milk too before adding it to your cheese sauce mixture. This makes it thicken up faster and more evenly.

This recipe calls for optional dry mustard powder. If you don’t have it on-hand, you can leave it out. But if you do, try it. It will NOT give you a strong mustard flavor or anything. It has a nice acidity that brings balance to the creaminess and depth to the flavor for an even more comforting dish. You can also substitute a half teaspoon of garlic powder for you garlic lovers out there.

Pro Tip: Macaroni and cheese is not just for the kids. When I’m alone I love making an ‘adult’ version with roasted veggies!

  • 2 cups grated cheese (sharp cheddar cheese & mozzarella cheese make a great blend)
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat to start the roux. Add in the flour and whisk until a thick, smooth paste is formed. Cook for about 2 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, warm the milk in the microwave and then slowly whisk into the roux. Cook the sauce over medium heat until thickened, about 5 to 8 minutes. Stir slowly while the sauce thickens and be sure to scrape the bottom of the pan. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheese one handful at a time. Stir in the salt and optional mustard powder after the cheese has fully melted.
  • Transfer the cooked pasta to a large mixing bowl and pour the sauce over the pasta, stirring gently until the pasta is evenly coated. Transfer the pasta to the greased baking casserole dish and sprinkle the top with bread crumbs. Bake the pasta until bubbly and golden brown about 15-20 minutes. Serve immediately.

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Cheesecake Recipe

  • 4 8 oz blocks of cream cheese full fat
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream full fat
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3 large eggs

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. In a medium bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar with a spatula until combined into a coarse, sandy mixture. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-10 inch pan. Make sure the mixture is tight and compact in the pan. Prebake the crust for 7-8 minutes.

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. In a large bowl, beat the room temperature cream cheese and granulated sugar together on medium high speed with a handheld mixer until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the sour cream, vanilla extract, and lemon juice and beat until thoroughly combined. On medium speed, add in the eggs one at a time. After the final egg is mixed into the batter, stop mixing. Over-mixing is the number one mistake you can make with cheesecake!
  • Prepare the water bath. Boil a pot of water, about 1 inch should coat the roasting pan you plan on placing your cheesecake in. While the water heats up, wrap the springform pan with aluminum foil and pour the batter on top of the crust. Place the pan inside the large roasting pan, then pour the hot water inside the pan and place in the oven.
  • Bake cheesecake for 55 to 70 minutes or until the center is almost set. Turn off the oven and leave the door slightly open. Allow the cheesecake to rest in the water bath and cool for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, remove from the oven and water bath and let cool completely at room temperature. Then refrigerate the cheese overnight. The next day, loosen the cheesecake with a knife and use a knife dipped in warm water between each slice to ensure precise, clean cuts. Serve with mixed berry coulis and fresh berries, chocolate, or whatever you love on top!

Why is my fried rice soggy/mushy?

If you cooked your rice right before trying to fry it, you’ll always have mushy rice. Another reason for soggy rice is adding too many ingredients at once. You want to add them in separately to keep the wok temperature hot enough to fry.

Confession time…I might just be hooked on chocolate chip cookies. I have always found them irresistible. Before having a family, I’d buy them from the bakery. Then, I got more adventurous and got the premade dough. You know the kind! But after becoming a mom, that’s when I realized how much stuff they put in those premade things. So I made my own classic chocolate chip cookie recipe and it never fails to come out just the way you want it, all with 10 simple ingredients.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Do you like your cookies gooey? I do! I think that’s what makes it so hard to keep from eating all of them at once. That warm, melted butter texture and chocolatey flavor is what makes these the best chocolate chip cookies! I used always make that old original Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe but it needed an update and this original recipe hits the mark perfectly.

Ingredients for making chocolate chip cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookie Ingredients

  • Butter – make sure it’s unsalted!
  • Sugar (both white sugar and brown sugar) – this mix gives it sweetness and that kinda caramelly taste. You can also use dark brown sugar as a substitute for regular brown sugar if you like a richer molasses taste.
  • Flour – all-purpose unbleached flour is an excellent choice. If you’re gluten-free, you can use the gluten-free version and still get great results!
  • Eggs – no need to separate the egg yolks from the egg whites for this recipe.
  • Chocolate chips – because you can’t have chocolate chip cookies without the star of the cookie!

Don’t let the time on this great recipe fool you. That’s really all the dough’s time to get itself ready. You will need to plan ahead so it has time to chill, but after that, it’s a piece of cake. Or rather, a cookie!

Cookies make the world a better place.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

Once you make chocolate chip cookies yourself, you’ll never want those prepackaged ones again. The cookie dough comes together really quickly with a mixer. Once you have it put together, you chill it. Then, you’ll bake it and they’ll be ready in 10 minutes!

Making chocolate chip cookies from scratch

Making Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe from Scratch

We need to make more things from scratch. Our grandmothers did it as did theirs and on and on down the line. It’s as simple as putting the ingredients together, chilling the dough, and then baking it. The results are worth it!

Secrets for the best chocolate chip cookies

Expert Secrets for the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

The best chocolate chip cookies will be yours for the baking (ha, see what I did there?) if you soften the butter first. Let it sit out a bit before you get to making your dough and things will go more smoothly.

*Pro Tip: Measure Flour – Flour needs precise measurements when baking, so do keep true to the recipe. Want more chewy cookies? Make sure your math is correct before you measure out double the recipe. Adding the wrong amount of flour can change the density of the cookies.

If you want the best cookies, don’t skimp on the chocolate chips. That’s the best part!

But the biggest secret of all is to make sure you don’t over-bake your cookies. They still cook even when you pull them out of the oven. Make sure you don’t leave them on the baking tray too long to cool!

How to make soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies

How to Make Soft and Chewy (Gooey!) Chocolate Chip Cookies

For soft, chewy, and ultimately gooey chewy chocolate chip cookies, plan to bake them only 8 to 10 minutes. Remember, they’ll still cook on the tray but as they cool, cooking them less guarantees that warm and lovely center!

How long to bake chocolate chip cookies

How Long to Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies

That depends. If you want them gooey as discussed above, make it 8 to 10 minutes. Otherwise, go for 10 to 12 minutes. They should be slightly golden brown around the edges.

Why are my chocolate chip cookies flat

Why Are My Chocolate Chip Cookies Flat?

Flat cookies are the result of butter that is too soft. So while you want the butter to soften a little, be careful not to let it get too soft. Not measuring the flour precisely will also cause this problem.

How to store chocolate chip cookies

Why Didn’t My Cookies Spread?

If you added too much flour, your cookies won’t spread. You have to make sure the butter to flour ratio is correct so follow the recipe with exact measurements to avoid it.

Can I Make Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies?

Yes, you absolutely can. All you need to do is use all-purpose gluten-free flour. Be advised though that this will change the texture of the cookie significantly.

How to Store Chocolate Chip Cookies & Leftover Cookie Dough

Grab your plastic containers! You can stack your baked cookies in the containers and separate each layer with wax paper or foil. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 days on the counter or you can refrigerate or freeze them up to 3 months.

For cookie dough, if you’re going to use it within 5 days, it will be fine wrapped in plastic in your fridge.

Can You Freeze Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough?

If you want to speed things along to get the dough ready, you can do so for about a quarter of the refrigeration time. That will get you closer to cookie time!

But if you want to freeze any leftover chocolate chip cookie dough to use at a later date, just wrap it well and it will stay good for 9 to 12 months.

How to Reheat Cookie Dough

You’ll want to let your cookie dough thaw out to room temperature after it’s frozen. Put it in the fridge and it will be ready to bake before you know it.

Every time we have a backyard BBQ, my husband mans the grill. I’ll handle the sides, but he has one request that is non-negotiable: my cornbread recipe. Cornbread is just one of those things that goes so beautifully with sticky barbecue-sauced fingers. Butter it up or enjoy it dipped in the sauces from that barbecue. A great recipe does not need to be complicated. Believe it or not, it takes just 30 minutes from start to finish!

Best cornbread recipe

Best Cornbread Recipe

I remember buying cornbread in the store, thinking it would be more complicated to make. It’s not though. Less than 10 ingredients and you have made-from-scratch cornbread that tastes just like heaven if heaven were made of cornbread.

Cornbread ingredients

Ingredients in Cornbread

  • Yellow cornmeal – you can’t have cornbread without it!
  • All-purpose flour – this lets your cornbread rise while giving it that spongy consistency (You can also use gluten-free all-purpose flour!)
  • Buttermilk – the secret to the best cornbread on the planet! Some people use whole milk but buttermilk really takes it up a notch.
  • Unsalted butter – for that moist texture and rich flavor
  • Sugar – every batch of Northern cornbread needs to have a hint of sweetness
  • Salt – only a little pinch is needed to balance the savory and sweet flavors

You gonna eat your cornbread?

Ease cornbread recipe step-by-step

Easy Cornbread Recipe

This is one easy cornbread recipe too since it only requires 9 ingredients and 30 minutes total of your time. Incidentally, the prep time is only 10 minutes. You’ve got 10 minutes, right? That’s faster than going to the store and picking up already-made cornbread with additives in it.

How to Make Moist Cornbread

This easy recipe calls for butter and buttermilk which should leave you with moist cornbread. However, if you want to make it extra moist, you can rub some butter on the top before serving for an even richer flavor!

How to make moist cornbread

Expert Tips and Tricks for Making Cornbread

If you want your cornbread to come out amazing, make sure your cornmeal is fresh. Believe it or not, it can go bad. Just take a sniff and it should be obvious.

Don’t overmix your cornbread either. Do it by hand. You want a few lumps in there, the old-fashioned way.

And one of the best tricks of all…follow the recipe below as it directs you to heat your pan or skillet in the oven first BEFORE adding the mixture. It will sizzle and make for that wonderful flavor when it’s all done!

How long to bake cornbread

What to Serve with Cornbread

For my family, we love cornbread with barbecue. Pulled pork, ribs, barbecue chicken, and a great backyard barbecue spread always needs homemade cornbread. You can also serve chili with it or chicken fried steak. Cornbread is a wonderful accompaniment to so many meals!

How to store cornbread

Can you use polenta instead of cornmeal in cornbread?

Yes, you can. Polenta is very similar to cornmeal. It just has a different grind. It tends to be more expensive, but if you have polenta in your pantry and not cornmeal, it will save you a trip to the store. It is not traditional an will taste different but it can be done.

Is corn flour the same as cornmeal?

How Long to Bake Cornbread

Once you pour your mixture into the hot skillet, you’ll bake it for 20 to 23 minutes. Watch to see if the top browns. Then check it in the center with a toothpick to see if it’s ready.

What does baking soda do in cornbread

Is corn flour the same as cornmeal?

Both corn flour and cornmeal come from dried, milled corn but the texture is different. Cornmeal has a course grittiness while corn flour is smooth. Don’t use corn flour for your corn bread because it will turn out with a crumbly texture. Stick with cornmeal for cornbread.

What does baking soda do in cornbread?

Baking soda will help your cornbread rise when the recipe calls for acidic ingredients like buttermilk. As this recipe includes both baking soda and buttermilk, you have all the elements to get your cornbread to rise to the occasion.

How to reheat cornbread

How to Store Cornbread

If you have any cornbread left (very rare over here), it needs to go in the fridge. Wrap it with plastic or foil and then tuck it in a plastic zipper bag. You should eat it within the next 3 days. If you’re going to eat it within a couple days you can store it in a ziplock baggie at room temperature.

What to serve with cornbread

Can You Freeze Cornbread?

You bet! Just wrap it tightly (again with foil or plastic wrap), put it in a freezer bag and freeze. It will last a while in there frozen, but you probably won’t be happy with the taste after 9 months.

How to Reheat Cornbread

Cornbread is best reheated in the oven. Sure, you can nuke it for 30 seconds but it won’t taste the same. Preheat the over to 350F and cover your cornbread with aluminum foil in a baking pan to keep from burning the top. Heat for 10 to 15 minutes, adding butter when done to moisten it up.

No need for a separate bowl for your wet ingredients here, once the dry ingredients are mixed, make a well in the center. Using a measuring cup, add in the buttermilk and eggs and mix well to combine. Add in your slightly cooled melted butter until just combined.
  • Remove your baking dish from the oven and pour the batter in. (The sizzle is exactly what you want!) Bake the cornbread for about 20-23 minutes or until the top browns with crispy edges and a toothpick test in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy straight out of the oven or top with your favorite toppings. Butter, a drizzle of honey, or cheddar cheese is delicious!

In our family, we can’t have a backyard barbecue or a picnic without a fresh coleslaw recipe! It goes with everything from burgers to ribs to grilled chicken just a well as potato salad or macaroni salad. This coleslaw recipe is going to be your new go-to recipe with simple and fresh ingredients that literally take less than 10 minutes to put together and puts that grocery store coleslaw to shame!

Best coleslaw recipe

Best Coleslaw Recipe

Do you still buy pre-made coleslaw from the store? Stop! This is the best coleslaw recipe you’ll find, and it’s made with just 4 simple ingredients. No weird preservatives or anything like that. You can celebrate with a clear conscience, knowing you’re giving the people you love something wholesome that tastes great.

Easy Coleslaw Recipe

Did I mention this has just 4 ingredients? 6 if you count the optional ones. But still! And it takes 8 minutes to make. That means you can throw it together right before friends and family come!

Ingredients for making coleslaw

Ingredients in Coleslaw

  • Cabbage – Coleslaw can be made with green or purple cabbage, though it looks prettiest with both
  • Carrots – These add more color (and nutrition!) in your coleslaw
  • Mayonnaise – This condiment is what lends that creamy texture
  • Apple cider vinegar – A known probiotic, apple cider vinegar adds flavor to the dressing
  • Honey – Use this to tame the acidity of the apple cider vinegar for balance

How to Make Coleslaw from Scratch

Coleslaw is generally a mixture of both red and green cabbage and carrots with a mayonnaise-based dressing. You can cut up whole heads of cabbage yourself, or you can grab a bag of coleslaw mix ready to go. All you have to do is make the coleslaw dressing and mix it up!

How to make coleslaw from scratch

Expert Tips and Tricks for Coleslaw Success!

Some recipes for coleslaw will call for lemon. While I adore lemons and think they add great flavor to many things, vinegar is best for coleslaw. It adds that perfect tartness without throwing everything off balance.

Don’t skip the salt either, though you can use less if you want to watch your sodium. It helps to let the coleslaw sit in your fridge a bit after making it and then give it a taste-test to see if it needs more salt and pepper or if it’s just right!

The most universal summer side dish!

How to Cut Cabbage for Coleslaw

A mandolin will help you slice cabbage into those nice thin ribbons that are perfect for coleslaw. If you don’t have one though and you’re slicing whole heads of cabbage to make your coleslaw, core the cabbage. Then stack the leaves and start slicing thinly in a diagonal way.

Dressing for Coleslaw

In the world of coleslaw, you’re either a creamy person or a vinaigrette person. This recipe uses the traditional creamy version with mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, and honey. You can also shake things up and use an Asian dressing to complement any exotic meal.

If you are vegan or are having vegan guests, you should use a vinaigrette dressing instead.

How to cut cabbage for coleslaw

How do you keep homemade coleslaw from being watery?

Watery coleslaw will ruin any picnic or barbecue. You can keep that from happening by adding your shredded cabbage to a strainer or colander atop a big bowl. Then you’ll add salt. It’s recommended you use one teaspoon per pound of cabbage used. Shake it so it distributes evenly. It will draw out excess water and then you can proceed with the rest of the recipe.

Dressing for coleslaw

What is coleslaw made of?

Coleslaw is a type of side salad dish that is made with fine shreds of raw cabbage and topped with a dressing. The dressing is usually made from a base of mayonnaise though some versions use a vinaigrette dressing instead.

What is the difference between salad and coleslaw?

While they are similar, there are key differences between salad and coleslaw. Salad uses raw or chilled vegetables, usually with a base of lettuce, spinach, kale, or mixed greens. Other accoutrements are often added to it including tomatoes, lettuce, beans, seeds, cheeses, cucumbers, and plenty more. It can be topped with any variety of dressing.

Meanwhile coleslaw uses finely-shredded raw green cabbage or red cabbage and while not always, often contains shredded carrots too. Coleslaw usually is dressed with a mayonnaise-based dressing though there are variants with a vinaigrette dressing which is best for anyone following a vegan lifestyle.

Easy homemade coleslaw

How to Store Coleslaw

Coleslaw must be refrigerated when you store it. Keep it in an airtight container in there where it should last between 3 to 5 days. If you’re keeping it out for a party, consider putting it on ice. Coleslaw can spoil and you certainly don’t want sick guests!

Hummus is one of our favorite dips! The kids love it just as much as my husband and I do. The best part is that it’s a healthy choice you can feel good about. Hummus is made with chickpeas which are a natural source of antioxidants. Plus, it’s full of fiber so this snack will really tame your hunger. Fresh homemade hummus is head and shoulders above generic grocery store hummus!

Best hummus recipe

Best Hummus Recipe

Once you make the best hummus recipe, you’re never going to buy it pre-made again. Made with real ingredients, you can feel good about serving it and eating it. When everyone wants a snack or you’re having friends and family over for the big game or a holiday, hummus is the perfect people-pleaser!

Easy Hummus Recipe

One of the best things about making homemade hummus is that it’s so easy. It takes just 15 minutes and only requires your blender to combine the 7 ingredients. You’ll have it ready faster than going to the store to pick it up!

Hummus ingredients

Ingredients in Homemade Hummus

  • Chickpeas – The star of the hummus show! If you want your hummus creamier, you can peel them, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Garbanzo beans can also be used as a substitute if you cannot find chickpeas.
  • Fresh lemon juice – For that lovely acidity!
  • Tahini – This condiment, made from sesame seeds, can be enjoyed on its own, but it is essential in making authentic hummus.
  • Garlic – One of the best ways to add that kick of flavor.
  • Olive oil – Used in the blending of the hummus as well as on top as is traditionally served.

easy hummus recipe step 1

What is hummus?

Hummus is used as a dip or spread, made with mashed chickpeas that get blended along with lemon juice, tahini, and garlic. Olive oil is often used as well, particularly drizzled on top. Garnishes can vary from simple fresh parsley to ground herbs, nuts, and seeds. It originated from the Middle East and has been a popular dish ever since.

How Do You Make Hummus from Scratch?

There’s no magic or mystery to making authentic hummus. Simply open your cans of chickpeas, add them to the blender along with the other ingredients, and blend until it’s smooth and creamy. You’ll then scoop it into a bowl and add a drizzle of olive oil and garnish it off with fresh parsley and ground sumac.

Words cannot express hummus I love you.

How to make hummus from scratch

Expert Tips and Tricks for Hummus Success!

Save that chickpea water. Known as “aquafaba,” it gives your hummus a more concentrated flavor rather than just adding water. Also, add liquid back in slowly. This will ensure you get that perfect texture of smoother hummus that’s creamy and delightful.

Choose the best ingredients each time and you will never be disappointed with your own homemade hummus.

Hummus Recipe Variations

There are tons of ways to vary your hummus. I recommend making it once the original way and getting a feel for it. Then you can fine-tune it with your own favorite things like sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, pesto, roasted garlic, spinach and feta, and plenty more. It’s so much fun to get creative with hummus!

Hummus recipe variation

What to add to hummus to make it taste better?

Taste is definitely in the mouth of the beholder for hummus. Whether you want to adjust your homemade version or one you’ve gotten from the store, you can add Greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice, more tahini, herb oil, chives, rosemary, ground cumin, toasted pine nuts or anything else fresh and lively.

Should you cook chickpeas before making hummus?

If you buy the canned chickpeas, you will not need to cook them. If you bought dry chickpeas and you don’t have time to soak them overnight in cold water, you can boil them for 30 minutes on the stove top with some baking soda to help breakdown the chickpea skins, cool them, and then they will be ready. Alternatively, you can use a pressure cooker to cook them as well.

Is hummus vegan?

Yes, hummus is completely vegan so everyone can enjoy it.

Easy homemade chickpea hummus

What to Serve with Hummus?

Pita bread or chips are always a good thing to scoop up creamy hummus with. You can also cut up fresh veggies like carrots, celery, cucumbers, and bell peppers to dunk into your homemade hummus. Try using your hummus on sandwiches and in wraps too for a healthier way to bring them together.

How to Store Hummus?

You’ll need to keep your homemade hummus refrigerated. Use a good airtight container and you can count on it for about 4 to 7 days. You can also freeze hummus if you keep it in a heavy-duty freezer bag.

Make brunch for the fam fast, or have an elegant dinner. This quiche recipe is a favorite for my family. While it includes ham and cheese among the ingredients, you can use the basic foundation to make it meatless or add in other veggies. My kids just love spinach in it too!

Best quiche recipe

Best Quiche Recipe

The best quiche recipe is one that is versatile. My goal with this one was to give you a basic formulation for making quiche that never fails. You won’t ever buy one again when you can make it yourself with fresh and healthy ingredients you can pronounce!

Easy Quiche Recipe

Want to know why this is one easy quiche recipe? I know you don’t have time for making pie crust (heck, who usually does?). Using one that’s ready-made shortens the process significantly while allowing you to spend time with your family instead. While it bakes you can enjoy those precious moments.

Ingredients for quiche

Ingredients for Quiche

  • Eggs – Nutritious and delicious eggs are the foundation of any quiche.
  • Half and half – This adds a rich and thicker quality when it bakes up.
  • Cheese – Shredded cheese is easiest to distribute. For the best taste, use 2 different types of cheeses!
  • Veggies and meats – While this recipe calls for ham and scallions, you can feel free to omit the meat, add to it, or use different veggies altogether. My husband loves fresh spinach in his quiche.

How long should I bake quiche

What is quiche?

Quiche is a French dish that uses an unsweetened pie crust as the vessel for holding a mixture of eggs and cream combined with cheese, meats, and vegetables.

What to serve with quiche

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream when making quiche?

Traditionally, heavy cream is used in quiche to help the eggs get that custardy texture. This recipe uses half and half but if you don’t have that, you can use whole milk instead.

Can you freeze quiche

Do you need to blind bake for a quiche?

You do not need to blind bake for a quiche, but to avoid a soggy crust, you might want to. The custardy texture of the filling can bog it down. Do be careful when baking though after you fill it as the outer edge of crust can get burnt so you will want to cover it.

How to reheat quiche

Do you bake the crust of a quiche first?

In this recipe, I do not. I pierce the bottom of the thawed crust and pour everything in. It comes out just the way I like it!

What to Serve with Quiche

Salads and soups (hot or cold) are always a good way to flank a homemade quiche on your brunch or dinner table. Roasted potatoes and asparagus with bacon can also enhance this tasty dish.

Do you blind bake quiche

How Long Should I Bake Quiche?

At 375F, it requires 25 minutes of baking time uncovered. At that point, you’ll want to check things out because you don’t want the crust to get too brown. If it’s looking a bit well-done, cover it with aluminum foil and continue cooking for 10 more minutes.

Bake crust for quiche

Can You Freeze Quiche?

Yes, you absolutely can. You can freeze it unbaked or after it cools from baking. Just make sure you wrap it well and use it up within a month.

How to Reheat Quiche

For frozen quiche you can just unwrap it and bake it with aluminum foil. You’ll need to add between 10 and 20 minutes to the baking time though for unbaked quiche. For already baked quiche, you can bake as directed.

If you’re heating up leftover quiche from the fridge, you should also use the oven. You can do it in the microwave, but it will taste better when you wait patiently for it from your oven.

At least once per weekend, I hear, “Mooooom! Can you please make waffles please?” And how can I resist, for I love my kids and I love waffles about as much as they do. Once you make them yourself, you will never buy those store-bought ones they claim you’ll never let go.

But please, let go. Let go and embrace life with real waffles made from scratch. There are only 7 ingredients in this. SEVEN. All of which I’m willing to bet are right in your pantry and fridge currently. All you need is to gather them up and heat up that waffle maker.

Easy Waffle Recipe

Making waffles yourself is easier than you think. In fact, once you do it, you will likely go through a phase where you decide to make homemade waffles for dinner too. Remember, chicken and waffles is a thing!

Ingredients for Waffles

  • Flour – The base of any waffle recipe!
  • Baking powder – This helps them rise to the occasion.
  • Eggs – You will divide them so that the whites are separate (I’ll explain why that matters in a sec!)
  • Butter – While you can use oil if you’re out of butter or don’t have enough, butter is definitely better.
  • Sugar – Without it, your waffles won’t taste sweet.

How to Make Waffles from Scratch

In just 15 minutes, your waffle batter will be ready. Dry ingredients are mixed together while wet ones are mixed together, and then they join forces. I also have a special trick I use to make them the fluffiest ever. Like the kind you get at a 5-star resort when you get to have a vacation with your husband only. THAT kind of breakfast. You deserve it!

Waffles are just pancakes with abs!

Expert Secrets for the Best Waffles!

Get the right waffle maker. There are so many choices out there, but one thing I won’t compromise on is the temperature control. Setting a temperature that isn’t too hot or too cool will ensure you get your waffles to come out perfectly every single time.

I also have another secret on how to make them fluffy. See below!

How to Make Fluffy Waffles?

Fluffy waffles come from separating the egg whites from the egg yolks. You’ll want to blend the egg whites and fold them into the batter. This will give you that light-as-air texture that makes you spend $10 or more for Belgian waffles at a brunch restaurant or hotel.

How to make waffle mix?

Homemade waffle max can be easily made by mixing together the dry ingredients and storing them in an airtight container or bag. When you’re ready, you can simply get the wet ingredients together and have waffles ready even faster!

Are Waffles Gluten-free?

Not if you use regular flour. You should use gluten-free flour and gluten-free baking powder if you have gluten sensitivities.

Are Waffles Vegan?

No. The eggs and butter are definitely not vegan-friendly ingredients. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make vegan waffles without a couple substitutions. Using a dairy-free milk like an unsweetened vanilla almond milk will be a good replacement for wet ingredients and oil can replace the butter.

Best Toppings for Waffles

On a lazy weekend or when we have house guests, I usually put out a toppings bar for everyone so they can make their waffles their way. Here are my favorite toppings:

  • Warm maple syrup
  • Melted butter
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate chips
  • Blueberries
  • Sliced strawberries
  • Candied pecans
  • Apple butter
  • Pretty much any fresh fruit you love!

And if you’re going for a mix of savory, try it with gravy and chicken. You can use 2 waffles to make a bun and have an epic southern-style sandwich!

How to Store Leftover Waffles

Let your waffles cool completely first. Then you can put them in containers or freezer bags. They’ll be good for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Cool completely before storing in freezer bags or containers. They will keep up to two weeks in the refrigerator, and up to four-six months in the freezer.

Can You Freeze Waffles?

Yes! And you’ll feel better about giving them to your kids than those store-bought ones. Wrapped properly in a freezer bag, you can keep them for about 4 months.

How to Reheat Waffles

If you have a toaster oven, just pop them in and set it to light or medium. But watch out! These will be easier to burn. You can also nuke them in the microwave, but the toaster or even the regular oven, is a better option and will make sure you have golden brown crispy waffles and not soggy ones.
