The Most Popular Type of Meat to Eat in Every Country

Meat is one of the most widely popular food groups in the world, with 86% percent of people in the world saying that their diet contains meat. From beef and chicken to fish and mutton, different types of meat make up a significant part of cuisine in many cultures. But which is the most popular meat in each country?

The How To Cook Recipes research team looked at data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to see what type of meat has the highest supply in nearly every country in the world.

Beef includes animals in the cattle category, including beef, bison, and buffalo. The “other meat” category includes animals like rabbit, camel, etc.

When you average out global meat consumption on a per-capita basis, the most popular meat in the world is pork, but consumption of poultry, like chicken and turkey, is growing the fastest. Poultry is also the most popular type of meat eaten in 60 different countries.

The country with the highest overall meat supply is Hong Kong, with 189.48 kilograms of meat consumed per capita per year. The most popular type of meat consumed is fish and seafood. The country with the lowest meat supply is Ethiopia, with a 7.61 kilogram per year per-capita supply.
