Avocado toast is a simple pleasure that takes only 5 minutes to make. Despite being so easy, it is a tasty, nourishing, and wholesome way to fill up for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just a snack. My family loves this avocado toast recipe that’s so easy, the kids love to help with this family favorite!

Best Avocado Toast Recipe

This is the best avocado toast recipe because it keeps things simple. There’s nothing complicated about it. Why pay $10 or more at a restaurant or café to have avocado toast when you can make it at home for less and know what you’re putting into it?

Easy Avocado Toast Recipe

This is an easy recipe too, but avocado toast isn’t all that complicated to make. You’ll have them ready in just 5 minutes, making it the perfect meal for busy times or when you just don’t feel like a hassle.

Ingredients in Avocado Toast

  • Hass avocado – the star of the recipe!
  • Bread – which will become toasted to your own personal level of perfection
  • Eggs – soft boil, fry, or slice up hard boiled eggs to put on your avocado toast
  • Lime juice – prevents browning
  • Fresh cilantro – complements the avocado flavors
  • Seasonings – salt and pepper to taste along with the option for red pepper flakes really jazz it up

How do you Make Avocado Toast from Scratch?

It’s as easy as toasting the bread, prepping eggs the way you want them, and mashing up avocados with some ingredients that season them. Cilantro, lime juice, and red pepper flakes bring out the naturally delightful taste of those avocados. Spread it on your toast and pile on the eggs and you have a filling meal.

Expert Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Avocado Toast

  • Don’t skip the lime as it keeps the avocado from browning so it retains that bright, green hue.
  • You don’t have to add eggs, but they do round out the meal.
  • If you don’t like cilantro, you can use other herbs to season your avocado. Just make sure they are fresh, not dried!
  • For something spicier, add more red pepper flakes (though don’t do this on your children’s portions!).
  • Use ripe avocados that feel slightly resistant when you touch the outside, not too soft or too hard.

I think my spirit animal is avocado toast.

The Best Way to Cut an Avocado

You want to cut an avocado vertically. Gentle push your knife in and go around. You should be able to pop the pit right out of there. Then scoop out the flesh of the avocado to mash it.

How do you make avocado toast from scratch

Is avocado toast healthy?

Yes, it is one of the healthiest quick meals you can eat. Depending on the bread you use, you can make it even healthier.

What does avocado toast taste like?

Avocado toast will taste bland if you don’t use the right ingredients. Choose bread that is healthful and flavorful and fresh avocados. How you season it will bring out the best in this meal. Even with my simple seasonings, you’ll get a crunchy, creamy texture with balanced flavor and a hint of red pepper to embolden it.

What to serve with avocado toast

What spices go well with avocado toast?

The sky is the limit with spices on your avocado toast! This recipe uses salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, but you can add in anything that you enjoy such as garlic, Cajun spice, or even Old Bay seasoning.

Best Seasonings to use on Avocado Toast

In this recipe, I use salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to go with the lime juice and cilantro. But you can add in others to your liking. Cumin and garlic would also work wonderfully. If you hate cilantro, make sure you use another fresh herb in its place. That freshness is what really makes for the best avocado toast.

What spices go well with avocado toast

What goes well on avocado toast?

Eggs are a perfect match to put on your avocado toast, though you can feel free to experiment. Bacon, salsa, tomatoes and basil, goat cheese crumbles, even a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil and flaky sea salt will all taste delightful on avocado toast.

Avocado toast topped with egg

What to Serve with Avocado Toast (Side Dishes)

Soups are always a great choice with avocado toast. Chicken tortilla or black bean soup would be a superb match. You can also do a salad of mixed greens or even chips and salsa to go with your avocado toast.

How to Store Avocado Toast

By the nature of toast, it’s a bit hard to keep avocado toast in the fridge. Toast gets very soggy in there, so you will want to store the avocado mash separately in an airtight container. Because of the lime juice, it should keep from browning but you can add a few drops of fresh lemon juice to help too. If prepping to take for lunch, toast your bread and pack it separately without refrigerating. Bring the avocado mash and spread it on when it’s time to eat.

How Long Will Avocado Toast Last?

Your avocado mash for avocado toast will last in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. You can toast up as much toast as needed until you use it all up.

Ingredients for making crepes

Ingredients for Making Crepes

  • Flour – use all-purpose flour (or your gluten-free version if you need to) as the base of the batter
  • Sugar – crepes aren’t designed to be super-sweet on their own so don’t go crazy
  • Salt – just a pinch adds balance
  • Whole milk – it’s best for the batter to have a rich texture
  • Eggs – like with regular pancakes, it helps bind your crepes together
  • Butter – you’ll need it for the pan to add that rich taste

They take just a few minutes each. Top them with berries and whipped cream, chocolate syrup, powdered sugar, or whatever you like!

Expert Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Crepes Every Time

  • Butter – with crepes, you must add butter to the pan between every crepe you cook. It keeps it from sticking and renders it with that buttery taste and crispy edges.
  • Lift & Twirl – lift up the pan and twirl it after adding the batter into your pan. This helps stretch it out as far as possible so it has that thin texture. After all, crepes are supposed to be thin. If they’re thick, they’ll be more like pancakes, which isn’t bad but if you’re going for crepes you want thin.
  • Blend it – although I prefer to hand mix, you can use a blender to mix up the crepe batter more quickly. Just be careful not to overmix.

Once your batter is ready, it just takes a few minutes. You’ll butter your pan and add the crepe batter to the center. Swirl the pan so the batter spreads thin. After 3 minutes, flip it and cook the other side. Don’t forget to add more butter to the pan between each crepe!

How is the difference between a pancake and a crepe?

Pancakes and crepes use mostly the same ingredients, but pancakes have baking powder to give them a little lift. Crepes are thinner and more delicate as well.

What is healthier pancakes or crepes?

Comparing one pancake to one crepe, a crepe is healthier. However, crepes are easy to stack and enjoy too so watch out how many you eat, and watch what you top them with.

Is a crepe just a thin pancake?

Not exactly, a crepe is a thinner pancake though it also doesn’t contain baking powder, the key ingredient to getting pancakes to rise.

Best Toppings for Crepes

If you love sweet crepes, fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries) and powdered sugar are favorites in my house for crepes. However, you can experiment to find your favorite crepe fillings. You can even have a crepe bar where everyone adds what they want. Try strawberry sauce, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, sliced bananas, peanut butter, or Nutella. You can even add savory crepe toppings like smoked salmon, capers, ham, mushrooms, bacon, tomato, spinach, ricotta, cream cheese, or pesto and sauteed veggies. The sky is the limit!

Make brunch for the fam fast, or have an elegant dinner. This quiche recipe is a favorite for my family. While it includes ham and cheese among the ingredients, you can use the basic foundation to make it meatless or add in other veggies. My kids just love spinach in it too!

Best quiche recipe

Best Quiche Recipe

The best quiche recipe is one that is versatile. My goal with this one was to give you a basic formulation for making quiche that never fails. You won’t ever buy one again when you can make it yourself with fresh and healthy ingredients you can pronounce!

Easy Quiche Recipe

Want to know why this is one easy quiche recipe? I know you don’t have time for making pie crust (heck, who usually does?). Using one that’s ready-made shortens the process significantly while allowing you to spend time with your family instead. While it bakes you can enjoy those precious moments.

Ingredients for quiche

Ingredients for Quiche

  • Eggs – Nutritious and delicious eggs are the foundation of any quiche.
  • Half and half – This adds a rich and thicker quality when it bakes up.
  • Cheese – Shredded cheese is easiest to distribute. For the best taste, use 2 different types of cheeses!
  • Veggies and meats – While this recipe calls for ham and scallions, you can feel free to omit the meat, add to it, or use different veggies altogether. My husband loves fresh spinach in his quiche.

How to make quiche from scratch

How to Make Quiche from Scratch

Grab a ready-to-go refrigerated pie crust and simply prep the ingredients. This recipe uses ingredients you don’t have to cook first so you’ll only be spending 15 minutes prepping. Gluten-free or low-carb and missing quiche? Simply use a greased pie pan and omit the pie crust for a crustless version that will satisfy your soul!

How long should I bake quiche

What is quiche?

Quiche is a French dish that uses an unsweetened pie crust as the vessel for holding a mixture of eggs and cream combined with cheese, meats, and vegetables.

What to serve with quiche

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream when making quiche?

Traditionally, heavy cream is used in quiche to help the eggs get that custardy texture. This recipe uses half and half but if you don’t have that, you can use whole milk instead.

Can you freeze quiche

Do you need to blind bake for a quiche?

You do not need to blind bake for a quiche, but to avoid a soggy crust, you might want to. The custardy texture of the filling can bog it down. Do be careful when baking though after you fill it as the outer edge of crust can get burnt so you will want to cover it.

How to reheat quiche

Do you bake the crust of a quiche first?

In this recipe, I do not. I pierce the bottom of the thawed crust and pour everything in. It comes out just the way I like it!

What is quiche

What to Serve with Quiche

Salads and soups (hot or cold) are always a good way to flank a homemade quiche on your brunch or dinner table. Roasted potatoes and asparagus with bacon can also enhance this tasty dish.

Do you blind bake quiche

How Long Should I Bake Quiche?

At 375F, it requires 25 minutes of baking time uncovered. At that point, you’ll want to check things out because you don’t want the crust to get too brown. If it’s looking a bit well-done, cover it with aluminum foil and continue cooking for 10 more minutes.

Bake crust for quiche

Can You Freeze Quiche?

Yes, you absolutely can. You can freeze it unbaked or after it cools from baking. Just make sure you wrap it well and use it up within a month.

How to Reheat Frozen Quiche

For frozen quiche you can just unwrap it and bake it with aluminum foil. You’ll need to add between 10 and 20 minutes to the baking time though for unbaked quiche. For already baked quiche, you can bake as directed.

If you’re heating up leftover quiche from the fridge, you should also use the oven. You can do it in the microwave, but it will taste better when you wait patiently for it from your oven.

At least once per weekend, I hear, “Mooooom! Can you please make waffles please?” And how can I resist, for I love my kids and I love waffles about as much as they do. Once you make them yourself, you will never buy those store-bought ones they claim you’ll never let go.

Best waffle recipe

Best Waffle Recipe

But please, let go. Let go and embrace life with real waffles made from scratch. There are only 7 ingredients in this. SEVEN. All of which I’m willing to bet are right in your pantry and fridge currently. All you need is to gather them up and heat up that waffle maker.

Easy Waffle Recipe

Making waffles yourself is easier than you think. In fact, once you do it, you will likely go through a phase where you decide to make homemade waffles for dinner too. Remember, chicken and waffles is a thing!

Ingredients for waffles

Ingredients for Waffles

  • Flour – The base of any waffle recipe!
  • Baking powder – This helps them rise to the occasion.
  • Eggs – You will divide them so that the whites are separate (I’ll explain why that matters in a sec!)
  • Butter – While you can use oil if you’re out of butter or don’t have enough, butter is definitely better.
  • Sugar – Without it, your waffles won’t taste sweet.

How to Make Waffles from Scratch

In just 15 minutes, your waffle batter will be ready. Dry ingredients are mixed together while wet ones are mixed together, and then they join forces. I also have a special trick I use to make them the fluffiest ever. Like the kind you get at a 5-star resort when you get to have a vacation with your husband only. THAT kind of breakfast. You deserve it!

Waffles are just pancakes with abs!

how to make waffles from scratch

Expert Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Waffles

Get the right waffle maker. There are so many choices out there, but one thing I won’t compromise on is the temperature control. Setting a temperature that isn’t too hot or too cool will ensure you get your waffles to come out perfectly every single time.

I also have another secret on how to make them fluffy. See below!

How to Make Fluffy Waffles?

Fluffy waffles come from separating the egg whites from the egg yolks. You’ll want to blend the egg whites and fold them into the batter. This will give you that light-as-air texture that makes you spend $10 or more for Belgian waffles at a brunch restaurant or hotel.

how to make fluffy waffles

How to make waffle mix?

Homemade waffle max can be easily made by mixing together the dry ingredients and storing them in an airtight container or bag. When you’re ready, you can simply get the wet ingredients together and have waffles ready even faster!

best toppings for waffles

Are Waffles Gluten-free?

Not if you use regular flour. You should use gluten-free flour and gluten-free baking powder if you have gluten sensitivities.

Are Waffles Vegan?

No. The eggs and butter are definitely not vegan-friendly ingredients. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make vegan waffles without a couple substitutions. Using a dairy-free milk like an unsweetened vanilla almond milk will be a good replacement for wet ingredients and oil can replace the butter.

how to make waffle mix

Best Toppings for Waffles

On a lazy weekend or when we have house guests, I usually put out a toppings bar for everyone so they can make their waffles their way. Here are my favorite toppings:

  • Warm maple syrup
  • Melted butter
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate chips
  • Blueberries
  • Sliced strawberries
  • Candied pecans
  • Apple butter
  • Pretty much any fresh fruit you love!

And if you’re going for a mix of savory, try it with gravy and chicken. You can use 2 waffles to make a bun and have an epic southern-style sandwich!

How to Store Leftover Waffles

Let your waffles cool completely first. Then you can put them in containers or freezer bags. They’ll be good for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Cool completely before storing in freezer bags or containers. They will keep up to two weeks in the refrigerator, and up to four-six months in the freezer.

Can You Freeze Waffles?

Yes! And you’ll feel better about giving them to your kids than those store-bought ones. Wrapped properly in a freezer bag, you can keep them for about 4 months.

How to Reheat Frozen Waffles

If you have a toaster oven, just pop them in and set it to light or medium. But watch out! These will be easier to burn. You can also nuke them in the microwave, but the toaster or even the regular oven, is a better option and will make sure you have golden brown crispy waffles and not soggy ones.

French toast is one of those super-elegant foods you can make that’s way easier than it looks. This easy French Toast recipe is on point! Why wait for brunch to roll around? Sometimes we do brunch for dinner around here and I feel like a hero.

Best homemade French toast recipe

Best French Toast Recipe

If you’ve made French toast before but it seems to fall flat, there’s a few things to know to make it the best you’ve ever had. Yes, even better than your favorite brunch place!

Easy French Toast Recipe

French toast is so easy. I think it’s easier than pancakes. And everyone loves it. My kids and my husband never leave a trace of it behind when they’re done eating!

Ingredients for making french toast

Ingredients for French Toast

  • Bread – Without it, it will be hard to make French toast. The thicker, the better! If you want the real deal, opt for Brioche bread!
  • Butter – It gives French toast that rich taste!
  • Eggs – This is the essential component to work with the bread.
  • Half and half – Along with the eggs, it makes it more custardy to create that flavor we all know and love! Heavy cream can also be used as a substitute.
  • Vanilla extract – This gives the french toast such an amazing flavor boost. Some people even add a bit of brown sugar to the mix if you like it extra sweet but it is not necessary.

How to Make French Toast from Scratch

The secret to amazing French toast is in the bread. In France, they use stale bread, believe it or not. You can buy special bread to make French toast with or simply grab what you have in your kitchen. Just make it!

I don’t mean to brag, I don’t mean to boast, But I’m intercontinental when I eat French toast.

Easy french toast recipe

What is the Best Bread for French Toast?

In this recipe, I use brioche bread. It’s nice and thick and pillowy, making it a perfect choice. I’ve also used challah, sourdough, Texas toast, and even regular sandwich style white bread. Thicker slices are indeed the best though.

What Milk to Use for French Toast?

You can use any milk you have on hand. My preference though is half and half. It’s just a little richer than regular milk and works beautifully to create that custard-like texture with the eggs to bathe your bread in.

How to make french toast

What Sweeteners to Use for French Toast?

Some people use sugar and other sweeteners when making their French toast. This recipe doesn’t do that. You’ll see the best way to make it is simply topping it with a dusting of powdered sugar at the end and serving it with warm maple syrup. Make sure you get real maple syrup too. It is SO much more expensive, but it doesn’t contain that gross high fructose corn syrup in it. Pure maple syrup has an exceptional taste if you’ve never tried it.

What is the best bread for french toast

How Long to Soak the Bread?

If you want to be sure your homemade French Toast comes out perfectly, do NOT submerge your bread in the egg/milk mixture for longer than a few seconds per side. The bread will fall apart and make a huge mess. Act quickly for the best results!

Making french toast from scratch

Can you put oil in the pan when making French toast?

Yes, but it is not recommended. Butter works best for French toast. Butter adds that rich flavor that everyone loves about French toast.

How to store french toast

Best Toppings for French Toast

  • Berries
  • Banana slices
  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple syrup

How to Store Leftover French Toast

Uh oh…did everyone claim they were hungrier than they were, leaving you with a bunch of leftover French toast? No problem! Simply cover it with aluminum foil or plastic wrap, then put it in a plastic bag to keep it from getting dried out. You can reheat it the next morning!

Can You Freeze French Toast?

Yes! Just put each slice between wax paper, then wrap it all up in aluminum foil or put in a freezer bag.

How to Reheat French Toast?

You can reheat french toast in the microwave, but I do not recommend that. It doesn’t have the same texture and feels like those breakfast buffets. Instead, heat your oven to 400F and add your French toast to a lined baking sheet. Cook for about 4 minutes on each side.

The best pancake recipe uses eggs differently than the others. I like to separate my yolks and my whites to give the texture the kind you find when you go out for a mega-brunch with those heavenly stacks of pancakes.

Ingredients for making pancakes

Simple Ingredients for Making Pancakes

This easy recipe calls for basic ingredients you likely already have in your cupboard.

  • Eggs – the best way to get perfect pancakes is to separate the yolks from the whites
  • Baking powder – it helps the flour rise up a bit so your pancakes get the fluffiness you crave from the pancake house
  • Butter – melt it so it mixes in with that rich taste
  • Sugar – all pancakes need sugar to have that nice, sweet flavor you love

How to Make Pancakes from Scratch

Pancakes from scratch are just as easy as making them from a box, but they taste better and are better for you because they’re made from wholesome ingredients. You’ll mix the yolks in with sugar and melted butter, then add milk. You’ll then sift in the dry ingredients and stir it together.

Then with your hand-mixer, you’ll whip up the egg whites and fold that into your other mixture. The key is to mix it well but not so much that there are no lumps. Lumpy pancake batter = the best pancakes from scratch!

How to make pancake mix?

If you want pancakes from scratch made even easier, you can always prep your dry ingredients in advance. This way, when you and your crew want fluffy pancakes from scratch, you can simply mix in the wet ingredients. Make sure you store the dry ingredients in an airtight container to keep it fresh.

Easy Pancake Recipe

This is an easy pancake recipe too. Just because the eggs are separated doesn’t make it anymore complex. In fact, you’ll have it ready to cook in 10 minutes. From there, it’s another 10 minutes of cooking and you’ll soon have gorgeous stacks of pancakes for the whole family to enjoy.

Expert Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Pancakes

  • Check the baking powder – most people never think to check the expiration date on their baking powder. If your baking powder is old or expired, you will find that your pancakes will come out flat instead of fluffy.
  • Sift your dry ingredients – by sifting or whisking your dry ingredients you will avoid getting lumps in your pancakes and will end up with a deliciously smooth texture to your pancakes.
  • Do not overmix – avoid over-mixing the batter as it will change the texture of the pancakes.
  • Use oil – use oil or oil cooking spray over butter when cooking pancakes. Butter can brown and burn more easily than oil. Oil will give you even brown crispy edges without burning them.
  • Go big – use a large skillet when cooking pancakes. Pancakes spread in the skillet and small skillets make it very difficult to flip the pancake properly. I prefer my large 12 inch skillet as it gives you much more room to get all the way under the pancake with the spatula.

Are Pancakes Gluten-free?

No, but with a few simple tweaks, you can make them gluten-free by using gluten-free flour.

Are Pancakes Vegan?

Because pancakes use eggs, butter, and milk, they are not vegan. But you can make vegan pancakes by subbing vegetable oil for butter, omitting the eggs, and using soy milk instead of dairy milk.

How to Make Fluffy Pancakes

If you want fluffy pancakes, this is an important step to follow in the recipe. The secret is in the eggs. Separating them is the key to these fluffy results and it takes no extra time or stress. Once you do it this way, you’ll never go back to simply chucking eggs into your mix.

  • Fresh fruit
  • Sprinkles

Can You Freeze Pancakes?

How to Reheat Pancakes

The fastest and easiest way to reheat your pancakes is in the microwave. It takes about 20 to 30 seconds depending on the wattage of your microwave to heat up one serving of pancakes.

You can also use your toaster, but if you have a large batch of them to heat up, use your oven. Simply preheat to 350F, then put your pancakes in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet. Cover the pancakes securely with foil and bake it for up to 10 minutes or until they’re all hot and ready.
