This is hands down the BEST and most creamy vanilla crème brûlée recipe with REAL vanilla bean! This easy recipe requires only 5 simple ingredients and is fun for the family to make together.
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1-2 vanilla beans (split lengthwise) (or 1 tsp of vanilla extract)
- 5 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar (for topping)
Preheat the oven to 325F. While the oven is heating, combine the cream, vanilla bean, and salt in a medium saucepan on low heat until it just becomes hot. Allow the mixture to sit for 2-4 minutes, then remove the vanilla bean.
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar together until light and airy. Add about a quarter of the heavy cream into the mixture. Once added, pour the rest of the sugar-egg mixture into the remaining cream and stir.
Pour into 6-ounce ramekins and place in a baking dish. Fill the dish with boiling water halfway up the baking dish. Bake for between 30-40 minutes, or until the centers are still wobbly. Let them cool completely.
Once cool, refrigerate for 3-4 hours. Once ready to serve, sprinkle each ramekin with a thin layer of sugar. Use either a heat gun or place the ramekins under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the sugar melts and browns.
